SUMMARY:
Responsible for the development, sales, pricing, profitable underwriting of Personal Lines business for the entire region. Maximizes profit through the selection and guidance of contracted independent agents. Develops and executes departmental and regional strategies for producing profitable PL business. Selects, develops, coaches regional staff. Manages business partnerships with Claim, Business Centers, other Travelers and PL distribution channels, and Home Office business units. Responsible for the financial management of the region.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Develop and implement regional sales initiatives and state strategies that support departmental objectives.

Develop a strong distribution network for Personal Lines Products through the independent agency system and related systems.

Defines, monitors and measures key results of the entire region and each member of the staff utilizing PL management information tools, including Controllable Income. Make decision adjustments based on the data and environment.

Monitor and influence the regulatory and competitive environment of the region and adjust regional and state strategies to appropriately reflect the interest of the PL business.

Coordinate with Regional Financial and Home Office Product area staff to set or adjust rates and pricing of PL products.

Coordinate territory-specific needs with the Business Center and ensure effective communications with agents on issues.

Coordinate agent development and training with Business Center and Home Office resources for strategic departmental initiatives.

EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
Bachelor-s degree or equivalent work experience

WORK EXPERIENCE:
The position requires field experience, proven management and leadership experience in all aspects of running a business. Candidates should have a minimum of five years experience in agency management for Property-Casualty, with an emphasis on Personal Lines.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Strong sales ability, negotiations skills. Effective platform and one-on-one verbal communication. Strong written communication.

OTHER:
Leadership: Understands major trends and developments that affect the business and identifies opportunities for strategic leverage. Drives for results by aggressively pursuing business objectives which demand a high degree of commitment, and sets high standards for self and others. Participates actively and shares the responsibility for a successful team approach. Shares information and personal knowledge to help team/unit goals and develop others.

Business/Technical Knowledge and Expertise: Knowledge of the Property-Casualty Industry. Knowledge of Personal Lines products and strong underwriting skills. Knowledge of the independent agency system and economics, and other distribution channels. Assesses the capacity of the market, agents, group of agents and builds profit plans at regional and agency level. Knowledge of regional financial management

Development of People: Coach and train staff in agency management, sales, Personal Lines business, and financial management. Apply effective performance management practices.

Teamwork: Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners (e.g., PL Product lines, Business Center, SECURE, etc.).

Customer Focus: Able to look from the marketplace inward by understanding different customer constituencies.
