Summary:
Provide analytical leadership in assigned actuarial unit, providing analytical insights to Actuarial leadership and Business unit partners. This position will require leading some analytical and product initiatives and contributing on Unit-wide initiatives with emphasis on critical thinking, relationship management, and quantitative analysis. Provides people leadership and management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Components (may include but are not limited to):
- Recommend & book reserves. Communicates with Finance and appropriate units.
- Evaluate adequacy of loss, ALAE, and ULAE reserves.
- Identify loss trends
- Obtian detailed knowledge of key business partners including Claim, Underwriting, and
Pricing Actuaries, competitors; Able to leverage business knowledge in development
of analytic solutions.
- Forecast and interpret underwriting results to aid management in planning process.
Analyze and interpret trends.
- Execution of analytical strategy and building relationships with actuarial and nonactuarial
partners are required.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on team projects.
- Effective communication with actuarial and business audiences regarding insights
from performed analytics. This position has responsibility for executing and
communicating actuarial initiatives performed on behalf of unit.
- Develops complex insurance analytics and solves problems: performance-based
metrics, data mining, pro-forma profit statements, econometric models based on
internal and external assumptions; and other innovative analytics methods. Able to
understand the basics of sophisticated analytics, including multivariate modeling.
- Enhances current procedures and creates new models to create world class analytics
- Leads others, attracts top talent, maximizes individual and team performance, and
holds others accountable and aligns rewards.
- Jointly developing personal performance goals with each staff member, providing
consistent feedback and coaching, and overall team skill development.
- Obtain detailed knowledge of company reports and business analytics
- Working with Underwriting, Senior Management, Reserving, Reinsurance and the
Financial unit, develop financial business plans and business strategies.
- Manage or participate in key/complex actuarial projects, including cross-company
actuarial initiatives.
- Present projects to senior level underwriting and actuarial management.
- Drives projects to their successful conclusion and communicates results.
Education / Work Experience:
- College Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics or statistics or
equivalent.
- Prior management experience
- Preferably has achieved Fellowship (9 exams).
- Strong PC skills: Excel, Access, PowerPoint & Word.
- Strong understanding of databases and data extraction.
Other:
- Demonstrate strong actuarial analysis and reporting skills.
- Strong understanding of actuarial and other insurance related models (i.e. property
CAT, ROE and RBC models).
- Solid understanding of financial reporting, both GAAP and Stat. Sound understanding
of income statements and balance sheets.
- Experience with financial modeling and forecasting.
- Strong understanding of insurance products and marketplace conditions and how
they impact financial models and results.
- Strong understanding of regulatory environment.
- Crisp and confident communications including analysis
