Our superior financial strength and consistent record of strong operating returns mean security for our customers - and opportunities for our employees. You will find Travelers to be full of energy, and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference.

Product Pricing Development Program

The Program

As a Pricing Analyst in the Product Pricing Developmental Program you will support Product Management Teams. Your primary responsibilities will involve using complex mathematical analysis to evaluate pricing models, utilizing actuarial concepts to create and complete filings that support rate revisions and finding trends and patterns in data to determine overall financial impacts and make recommendations. Working on the Pricing Support Team as a Pricing Analyst offers unique types of projects that will involve interaction with many departments throughout Travelers. Each project will vary in time, from a few hours to a few months and will allow direct dealings with upper management, consisting of Market Analysts, Market Directors, and Product Managers. After one to two years in the Program, you have the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you gained on another team in the Personal Insurance or Business Insurance-Select Accounts Organization.

The Training

The Product Pricing Development Program begins with an intensive 12 week training program for a small group of peers that provides exposure to the insurance industry as a whole and, more specifically, Personal Insurance and Select Accounts. Training is done through a mixture of classroom, online, text book, job shadow, and computer tutorials. You will have the opportunity to learn the necessary technical skills for project work as well as general skills to be successful in the business world such as communication, team work, professional behavior, and self management. During training, you will be assigned project work with the opportunity to interact with current Pricing Analysts in a collaborative environment.
As a participant in the Program, you will have the opportunity to visit and tour different departments, participate in Executive Speaker events, and peer and career mentor programs. After the training program, the role of a Pricing Analyst shifts to devoting about 75% of your time to project work, while still focusing 25% of your time on training and development.

A Normal Day

One of the most common projects participants take on is the compilation of Rate Filings for submission to the Department of Insurance (DOI). This is a very analytical process involving a great deal of data. As such, participants often spend a good deal of the day working with data to determine how rates should be altered. In addition to rate filings, participants are often called in to work on projects ranging from Research & Development to Catastrophic Claims to New Product Development.
With your projects, you will be expected to approach your work with a certain degree of initiative and innovation, perform at a high level of productivity, and complete them with a thorough sense of quality and pride. As well as completing project work, members of the Pricing Support Team participate in weekly team meetings and bi-weekly training sessions. Meeting topics range from important Product Management initiatives and news, to team building exercises and career path options. On the Pricing Support Team, you will be offered many opportunities to showcase, as well as develop, your leadership skills through mentoring, training, and assisting others on the team. Weekly one-on-one meetings with your manager will help you to identify your skills and core competencies as well as your development areas. Through your one-on-ones and varied project work, your manager will be able to help lead you in the right direction for your next role. The career path opportunities for a Pricing Analyst are numerous as you will be exposed to many different areas of the company, including, but not limited to, Finance, Actuarial, Risk Management, Reserving, Research & Development, Operations, and Marketing.
