Participate in setting agency goals for assigned agencies and work with management to identify and generate new business flow in accordance with our underwriting appetite.  Act as a technical referral resource for less experienced underwriters.  <br/><br/>PRIMARY DUTIES: <br/>Build agency relationships to promote business growth. <br/><br/>Underwrite and price accounts in support of the strategic business plan.  Ensure production and underwriting objectives are achieved. <br/><br/>Support long and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives. <br/><br/>Follow Select Underwriting Best Practices to evaluate new and renewal Select Accounts business to accept, decline, modify, rate, and quote these accounts. <br/><br/>Responsible for quality control through handling of agency referrals and policy issuance, as well as compliance with all regulatory requirements. <br/><br/>Participate and/or lead related projects and assignments (e.g., review and develop agency production strategy, policy services, workflow etc.). <br/><br/>May provide technical underwriting leadership and guidance for underwriters on more complex renewals, endorsements, and issues.  May help identify and develop technical training needs within the office and developmental opportunities to continuously build underwriting expertise. <br/><br/>Demonstrates the ability to build partnerships with other business groups and identifies and delivers agency and product solutions at the account level. <br/><br/>Maintains an understanding of all Travelers products, services and solutions and initiates discussions with other business units as appropriate. <br/><br/>WORK EXPERIENCE: <br/>Minimum 2 years sales experience <br/><br/>OTHER: <br/>Strong automation skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. <br/><br/>Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills. <br/><br/>Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. <br/><br/>Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, decision oriented environment. <br/><br/>Ability to manage multiple tasks (strong organizational skills) <br/><br/>Strong knowledge of Property Casualty business/products. <br/><br/>Ability to translate technical and system knowledge to others. <br/><br/>Strong technical underwriting skills. <br/><br/>Ability to translate technical and system knowledge to others. <br/><br/>Strong knowledge of Property Casualty business/products. <br/><br/>Limited travel necessary.  <br/><br/> Travelers is an equal opportunity employer. The Travelers Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Program (UPDP) is a highly structured training program that provides you with the foundation for a strong underwriting future.<br/><br/>Disciplined underwriting is the foundation of our business strategy and one of the keys to our success. Underwriters are the heart of the insurance process, gathering and researching pertinent information and then using their analytical skills to evaluate the acceptability of business and institutional risk. They are responsible for managing a profitable portfolio of business and building strategic partnerships with our agents and brokers. An underwriting career includes a dynamic blend of analytical and selling/marketing skills - it-s challenging, stimulating and a great career choice<br/><br/>Program components:<br/><br/>UPDP participants are hired into a field office and begin the one-year training program. Paired with a coach, who guides them through the comprehensive training, participants will learn and apply technical insurance knowledge in a structured, hands-on environment. <br/><br/>Throughout the program, participants will develop an understanding of Business Insurance-s long- and short-term business strategies designed to achieve growth and profit objectives for their particular business unit. Participants also develop effective relationships with internal sources to ensure the delivery of all related services to customers. UPDP participants will graduate to manage their own underwriting territory and contribute positively to their business unit-s plan and Travelers- overall profitability.<br/><br/>Training and development:<br/><br/>Participants combine comprehensive on-the-job training in their field office with classroom training in Hartford, Conn. and Saint Paul, Minn.
